Who I AM Final Design

Title: Who I AM

Design Concept: This work employs Gestalt principles, contrast, repetition, and symbolism to express the predicament of the privacy crisis and loss of free will in the modern information age. The central figure is blank, devoid of features, abstractly representing the human self. Through the use of negative space, the figure is "compressed" out by the dense, vibrant background, metaphorically symbolizing the massive influx of information and surveillance.

The typography is directly integrated into the visual narrative. The question mark (?) doesn't just mean "WHO," but can also represent "what," "where," etc., expressing a more general questioning of identity, location, and purpose. The words "I AM" have faded in color and are enveloped by dense, labyrinthine lines, reminiscent of fingerprints or blood vessels. These lines reinforce the visual metaphor of self-examination.

3. Final Reflection

• What did I learn in this module?

I learned how to apply abstract theories, such as Gestalt theory and contrast. I discovered that design principles are not merely static compositions and color schemes, but also effective tools for storytelling, psychological interaction, and guiding the viewer's eye. By analyzing poster works like "Everything Is There, Everywhere," I transitioned from passive visual appreciation to active interpretation, learning how to use visual elements to solve specific communication problems.

• What did I like the most?

What I enjoy most is the process of expressing ideas as images using digital technology. When an idea is born, I don't know how to compose the image or what to draw on the canvas. Facing a blank sheet of paper, my thoughts are chaotic. But I first discard these worries and summarize my ideas into a few keywords: person, definitely 3, surveillance, information. Thus, the initial draft was born. The figure is placed in the center as the main subject, with circles and curves encroaching on the figure from the side.

• What did I least like?

The integration of typography with complex imagery was the most frustrating and challenging aspect for me. During the refinement of my final poster, finding the right balance for the text without it clashing with the busy, eye-filled background took multiple frustrating iterations.

• What new things did I learn about myself through this module?

I discovered that I have a strong affinity for "minimalist surrealism" and using visual recontextualization to communicate complex emotions. While I have a strong interest in the technical side of design, this module revealed my capacity for deep visual semiotics and traditional 2D storytelling. I learned that I enjoy creating tension in my work—pitting visual chaos against a singular, strong conceptual anchor.

• What changed and what remained unchanged in my learning process?

What changed: My understanding of visual cohesion. I used to view principles like "Harmony and Unity" as meaning a design had to be calm or orderly. I now understand that harmony means the visual language aligns perfectly with the narrative intent—even if that intent is to portray chaos. I also no longer look at design principles in isolation, but rather how they function simultaneously.

What remained unchanged: My core focus on human-centric themes and interactive experiences.

• What are my future goals?

My immediate goal is to apply this heightened "visual literacy" to my broader interactive and creative coding projects. I want to ensure that as I build interactive interfaces and digital experiences, the foundational graphic principles—like Gestalt and visual hierarchy—are flawlessly integrated. Looking further ahead, I aim to pursue a Master of Arts in the UK, targeting programs in Design Informatics or Creative Computing. I want to fully merge these robust visual design principles with advanced interactive technologies to create deeply immersive, narrative-driven digital art.
