Project 1: Precedent Study and Analysis
My first project is a study and analysis of a designer and an interactive space. In class, the teacher reviewed the design elements of points, lines, and planes from the online course by analyzing the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center. The teacher also introduced us to the design elements of the Petronas Towers in Malaysia.In this project, I need to select a designer for analysis, examine their background and design philosophy, and choose one of their works to analyze, specifically focusing on the floor plan and elevation drawings.
I began to explore the history of world architecture, and through a week's study, I discovered many designers who had a significant impact on architectural history. Ultimately, I chose to research Walter Gropius because I see him as a turning point. Although his buildings are constructed with simple materials and shapes that may seem ordinary today, and were not as grand and ornate as Baroque-style architecture at the time, this is precisely how he changed the landscape of world architecture—designed for the practical needs of people. I truly admire this about him.In the second part, I chose to study Gardens by the Bay because I am drawn to places where humans can closely interact with nature. Its interactive installations impressed me, and during my research, I began to strongly desire a site visit, hoping to experience it in person someday.
